This week has been such an adventure for both my wife and I. Just before Father’s Day we confirmed that we are expecting a child. That was a wonderful gift. This past week was our second ultrasound to check on baby and see how it is doing. For a first time father that was an experience I was glad to be apart of. Tuesday morning we got into the van and took the trip to the doctors office about 30 minutes away from where we live. We arrived to the appointment right on time. We sat in the waiting room for what seemed like an eternity. We had only decided that morning that we would find out the gender of our baby should the technician see what it would be. The technician called us back and we proceeded to follow her to the ultrasound room. My wife took her position and I found a place to stand where I could be out of the way of everyone as well as watch the screen. The technician started to do her job and the baby showed up on the screen. As she was doing her measurements to see how the baby is doing a tear came to my eye. I thought, wow this is my child that God has trusted me with. I am going to be a daddy. We kept seeing all the important stuff, the brain, bladder, heart and other organs. We are told that the baby is very healthy. We even get the chance to listen to the heartbeat. Then the following words are spoken from the technician’s mouth, “I know what you are going to have!!” IT”S A BOY!!!!!
My first thought is, I now will have someone to watch NASCAR with me and be the 4th generation train collector in the family. I said this to my wife as we continued with the ultrasound. Of course we now have to figure out a name. We are now about halfway through the pregnancy. Each day we are preparing more and more for the arrival of the baby into our lives. While we did not plan to have a child this year we are grateful and blessed that God has given one to us. Already family and friends have stepped in and have given us so many things. The only thing not yet in the apartment which we now live is diapers, wipes, burp rags and clothes. I have faith those will be here soon. As soon to be parents we are getting more excited to see our baby boy soon. Expected due date is January 21, 2018!!!
