We have all seen the news, and currently a massive recovery effort is underway in the central Philippines. The international community has responded greatly, by sending people to help remove the damage, rebuild, provide food and water, and rescuing those trapped. The work after Typhoon Yolanda, as know in the Philippines, will go on for years. The lives of the survivors will forever be impacted, unfortunately many are still in harms way. This morning I received and email from Kids International Ministries (KIM). It is an update on the relief for the typhoon affected areas. As I was reading it, it felt as if a dagger was being thrusted into my heart. They said, "According to a recent Manila Times article, 1.7 million children are exposed to exploitation due to the economic damage the area has suffered." Also, another point they mentioned was that 90% of daycares and schools where destroyed in the typhoon and about 7.4 MILLION women and children are in need of "psycho-social support."
There is an increased risked of being trafficked by those from the typhoon affected areas. Traffickers will pray upon these people and offer jobs, money, and places to live to deceive them into following the trafficker. In the end they end up being sold many raped upwards of 40 times a day. I am sitting at home this week getting ready to have a Thanksgiving meal with my family. However, I would rather be in the Philippines at this time protecting those lives that are at risk. This is where I have been called. My dream is to help the lives of those rescued from or at risk of human trafficking by getting them into a safe, God centered environment. I want to encourage you today to sow seeds into this ministry. Everything that you give will be used to send me to the Philippines to help those in need and at risk. I can not go without the support of the body of Christ. Currently in need of $6,500 to fund the first year in the Philippines.
